My Left Handed, Under the Table, Fire-Brewed, Turkey Chili Supreme
Great title huh? Anyway, this is my own concoction. This didn’t come from a cookbook, it came from my grubby little mind while I was trying to come up with a different spin on chili. I played around with it on a number of tries, and this one made the final cut. I still make it. It’s still good. Simple too. A crock pot can’t miss.
Ingredients
1 package lean ground turkey breast
1 large/medium onion (I use vidalia, but can use yellow)
2 – 14.5oz cans diced petite tomatoes (low sodium)
2 – 15.5oz cans Bush’s mild chili beans in sauce
1 – 15.5 can dark red kidney beans (drained)
1 – 15.5oz jar of medium Tostito’s chunky salsa
Dark Brown Sugar
Salt and pepper
Brown the turkey breast in a frying pan breaking it up into small pieces and pink is gone
Salt and pepper turkey while frying
As turkey cooks, dice the onion and put in the crock pot.
Add the rest of the cans into the crock pot, beans, drained kidney beans, tomatoes and salsa.
When turkey is done, drain liquid if any and add to crock pot.
With a big spoon, mix all ingredients together in crock pot and cook on low for 6 hours or high for 4 hours.
After an hour…add about ¼ cup brown sugar, mix and taste. It adds just a touch of sweetness..add more if you wish…it’s up to your taste. Try less and build til you get the right taste.
(To get it hotter, if you like it that way, instead of the medium salsa, add a jar of the hot salsa instead)
